Four For The Future was established in 1994, identifying four program areas critical to achieving the 100's commitment to developing leaders and ensuring the future of African American youth - Mentoring, Education, Health and Wellness and Economic Development.
Mentoring
Mentoring is the cornerstone
program of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. Through mentoring, children
are encouraged to be healthy, educated, contributing members of our society.
The members of the 100 black men of America Inc. give generously of their
time, inspiring and motivating by example.
Mentors spend time in the neighborhoods and reach young people on their own turf: where they live, work, play, and go to school. Through one-on-one relationships and group activities, these mentors become friends, advocates, and role models for each child - yet the impact of the program spreads out into the families and the broader community. Mentoring accomplishes miracles.
Education
Education is the key to
opportunity. The 100 not only provides college scholarships, but members take
an active role in primary and secondary education in their communities. But,
more importantly the 100 also works with local and regional government to
create legislation that supports improvements in school systems across the
nation.
Some 100 chapters have "adopted" classes in local schools, providing mentoring, tutoring, encouragement, and enrichment to students from elementary school through college. These programs have raised high school graduation rates and increased the number of students going on to college.
Health and Wellness
Health and Wellness is a
vital component of a thriving community. 100 black Men of America, Inc. partner
with other non-profit organizations and specialists in law enforcement, education,
sociology, medicine and media to promote drug abuse prevention, teenage pregnancy
prevention, as well as awareness to prevent diabetes, prostate cancer, HIV/AIDS,
obesity, hypertension and heart diseases.
Economic Development
There can be no self - sufficiency
without empowerment. The 100's economic development program creates businesses
and jobs, fosters financial responsibility, and provides career training.
The 100 also encourages entrepreneurship by providing information and education
about owning and operating businesses.
